Summer conferences and classes

One of the nice things about summer is that it's conference season. I don't go to that many, but I get to a few, which is always nice. While it can be terribly draining, I still think travel's cool, and I really enjoy going places I've not been before.

This year, I'm doing OSCON and YAPC::EU.1 As part of that I'm doing tutorials and classes to help pay for it all. At OSCON I'm doing a "Writing Perl Extensions in C" class, and for YAPC::EU I'm teaching a three-day Beginning Perl class. Plus talks--a state of parrot talk for OSCON, and some as yet to be determined talks for YAPC::EU. Unfortunately the timing's a bit dodgy, so I get home from OSCON on a Sunday, pack up, and fly out to Europe on Monday. Not, mind, that I'm complaining--I get a week in Portland and nearly two weeks in Paris and, let's be honest, who'd complain about that?

Anyway, hopefully I'll see everyone at one place or another. (Alas, this year I won't be making YAPC::NA, YAPC::CA, or RubyCon2003, which is a shame) By all means, please sign up for classes if you want 'em, to make sure that enough people do it that I can actually go. :) (And I do teach classes outside conferences, if anyone wants them)

This does mean that it's slide patch-up time, though. I've got to get my C extension slides done in the next week or so as I'm giving a runthrough of it at the NY Perl Seminars the evening of May 20th, and my Beginning Perl slides and class notes need some fixup and rework so I can get them off for printing for class. Karen's well past tired of me pushing this stuff to the last minute, so I'm trying to get it all done in a reasonable time. We'll see if I manage.

1 That's Yet Another Perl Conference Europe, as opposed to YAPC::NA for North America, YAPC::CA for Canada, and YAPC::Israel. All low cost (less than 100 Euros or dollars, generally), relatively small (~200 or so for ::NA and ::EU, can't speak for the others) perl conferences, originally put on as an alternative to the much more expensive O'Reilly Perl Conference, and later OSCON
